The brief: to compose a site specific Arboricultural Method Statement for Wiltshire Council for underground high pressure gas pipe installation adjacent to a Tree Preservation Order protected mature beech tree in Silver Street, Calne (TPO Order 93. No. 1).
Upon Local Planning Authority approval, Tree Parts carried out the on-site works with the appointed sub-contractor. All works were carried out in keeping with BS 5837:2012 ‘trees in relation to design, demolition and construction’ recommendations.

Tree Parts worked in the prepared trench with an air-spade and specialist vacuum-excavator to expose all roots to be preserved and protected.

Proximity of newly installed gas main to the protected beech tree is clear. Exposed and protected tree roots crossing the trench all remained undamaged.

Each primary root over 25mm was wrapped in hessian kept damp to minimise desecration during their limited time of exposure to the elements.

On completion the roots were covered over with topsoil and organic mulch, carefully compacted and placed within the entire rooting zone of the beech tree. The new gas main is visible, safely installed beneath.
